They aren't leaders and haven't been for a long time, maybe never. The managerial state quarters rulers. The 'checks and balances' system only applies when there's a turf war. Nevertheless, there's room for optimism. Our national shared problems are less shared than we've been led to believe and anarcho-tyranny brings all the consequences of authoritarian rule without the benefit of supposed "rule of law." Anarcho-tyranny is when socially acceptable behavior is illegal, but deviant behavior is permitted. Looters aren't prosecuted, for example, but store owners defending stores are vilified. Never has the case for individual freedom been more clear, and liberty easier to sell. You don't have a duty to society: individual responsibility is the impulse compelling you to take care of yourself by asserting your agency firmly, establish your own ties to your community, and carry out your vision for your family.
Not sure how I got here, or who you are so apologies - this spoke to me so I saved it and came back to finish later. Now rereading it I see the biases. Zero mention of the feeling of being a sucker watching people make a mockery of the elections , zero mention of the Trump family looting for themselves. Yeah it's a vicious cycle, the solution isn't to swing further the other way.
Personally I feel the same about taxes and food stamps. If I work harder and make more for working harder I should go down in tax bracket each step not up. But maybe I’m just greedy.
It does seem worse in recent times. From an individual perspective I remember some quote: "the true test of a man's character is what he does when no one is watching". You can only control your own actions and you have to live with the consequences.
Also, it seems like the biggest 'reward for bad behavior' in our era goes to Fauci

Do yourself a favor, do not take up Elon’s “causes du jour “. He does not live like the rest of us
Hey Trumpy, you're on watch now
this is not novel. it has occurred through every age. "winners" don't play by the rules, they create them.

We need to eliminate the positions of all politicians and all leaders, replacing them with software such as smart contracts and data oracles.
